Some History:

• Original design inspired by Chevrolet’s desire to counter Bill Elliot’s dominant Thunderbird in NASCAR, with an aerodynamically improved Monte Carlo.
• Chevrolet and Cars & Concepts developed a package that was wind tunnel tested at the GM proving grounds. Cars & Concepts provided engineering, parts sourcing and assembly.
• 200 identical white and burgundy Monte Carlos were built in 1986 as a special run to comply with NASCAR rules for production vehicle status. Of these, 35 had special plastic back windows for development purposes. (These went to NASCAR teams). The other 165 cars were distributed one each to the Southeastern Chevrolet dealers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
